Serial communication Can someone guide me on how to use the serial port without having to use third party components in D6? I am currently using a thrid party one that appears quite nice and is easy to use but under the hood all kinds of strange things go on. Instead I would like to do the generic Windows stuff myself so I know what goes on. Thanks, Jens. |

Delphi: RS-232, serial comms, COM1, COM2 This has good information, and a search button at the bottom of the page Please don't dismiss it because it isn't full of graphics, scripts, cookies, etc! Click here if you want to know more about the source and format of these pages.
Re:Serial communicationHello Jens, Jens Munk schrieb: Quote> Can someone guide me on how to use the serial port without having to use in this article You find how to use the serial port. I found that some of the described procedures does not works in the described way. Quote> I am currently using a thrid party one that appears quite nice and is easy over the world. And You may start at the very beginning. Try my component too: http://www.domis.de/serialng.htm Best regards Ekkehard -- DomIS Internet Solution - Ekkehard Domning Im 'mCC': Industriestr. 17 - 49740 Haselnne Mail: [email protected] Internet: http://www.domis.de |
Re:Serial communicationMr. Domming: You are exactly the person I've been looking for! I'm testing the SerialNG component, using it to retrieve NMEA information through the serial port. If I read the clusters, I often find extra CR-LFs dividing the (otherwise correct) lines of data received. I haven't been able to use the CharEvent, either. Is there a flag or something to be set? Thanks, Ingiro |
Re:Serial communicationWhy reivent the whell ? I use AsinfFree for several years In Delphi 4,5 and 6 and are very stable, and I never have trouble. Did you try ? Also async free souce code is a very good source of information regarding Serial ports . 'Jens Munk' <[email protected]> escreveu na mensagem news:3cd18987_1@dnews... Re:Serial communicationThanks to all of you, I get the point - especially after having had a look at the MSDN documantation. This is really what I was asking for and it has never harmed anybody to know what behind the code you are using. Kind regards, Jens. |
Re:Serial communicationHello Ingiro, JR schrieb: Quote> Mr. Domming: You are exactly the person I've been looking for! Quote> I'm testing the SerialNG component, using it to retrieve NMEA There is only one case where the WinAPI insert additional chars, when You select ErrorReplacement. Quote> I haven't been able to use the CharEvent, either. WinAPI can signalize when a special Char was received, the Component signalize this to the main Program using the OnRxEventChar Event. In this moment all received Chars, resides in the Windows receiver queue. You can now force the building of a 'Cluster' setting the 'ReadRequest' Property to 'True'. The receiver Thread will now pack all received Data (It is possible that some chars received *after* the CharEvent!!) into an cluster and send the OnRxClusterEvent to Your program. Hope thats helps.
